Castor Oil Pack Instructions: How to Use a Castor Oil Pack
Caution: If you are chronically ill or under a doctor’s care, check with your health care practitioner before trying a new program.
• Castor Pack kidneys after the Master Liver/Gallbladder Flush.
• Castor Pack areas of the body where there is chronic pain or old injuries.
• Relieve tension when Castor Pack is placed on the back and sides of the neck.
• Alleviate cramps during menstruation when placed on lower abdomen.
How does it work?
The multiple layers of flannel saturated with quantum quality castor oil are theorized to induce a high frequency resonant effect which allows the castor oil’s immune-boosting phytonutrients to deeply penetrate the cells, triggering a purging of stagnant toxins. This resonant effect can penetrate beyond the lymphatic system’s reach to even purge and purify the “no man’s land” between the GAG’s (glycosaminoglycans) and the lymphatic system where trapped toxins may otherwise remain for a lifetime. Quantum Castor Oil packs help create a profound shift toward ideal cellular resonance and thus, ideal health.
Items Needed
1. Castor Oil Kit - including Quantum Castor Oil (8oz.) – Premier Quality from India, and ?Quantum Cotton Flannel- sheets of certified organic cotton flannel (natural beige); no toxic bleaches, pesticides or chemicals. 2. Plastic Sheet – a plastic sheet (such as a garbage bag), plus a bath towel and a few safety pins or large elastic bandage. 3. Electric heating pad (for dry, not moist heat) – to gently heat the castor oil pack while it is in place on the body. We recommend tying 2 EMF Diffuser Tags (about 2 inches apart) near the plug end of the cord of the heating pad to disperse the toxic electromagnetic field of AC current (60 cycles/second). If you don’t have diffuser tags, an old naturopathic technique proves effective. Simply tie a knot in the cord of the heating pad every 2 feet.
Most Common Areas for Castor Packs (External Detoxification)
I. Abdomen - Using a castor pack over the abdomen performs many functions. It promotes rapid lymphatic drainage, improves bowel function, and eliminates stored toxins in the intestines.
• Make sure to cut enough flannel cloth to cover 1 inch above the belly button all the way down to the top of the pubic bone. For an average size female the measurement is usually 8”x 8”. Extra Abdominal Fat: For individuals with stored abdominal fat, it is recommended to keep the pack on for 1 ½ hours. This is to ensure that the pack has ample time to work through the fat layers in order to “draw” toxins from the intestines and the lymph.
II. Lower Back Region - Using a castor pack on the lower back promotes lymphatic drainage of the Cisterna Chyli, located in front of the second lumbar vertebra- about 2 inches below the 12th rib. If you rub the lower back area and feel nodules- these are enlarged lymph nodes stemming from the Cisterna Chyli.
• Cut the cloth big enough to cover just below the rib cage down to the tailbone. The general measurement is 6” x 6”.
III. Kidneys - The kidneys are major detox organs and need to be functioning efficiently during any cleansing routine. They take on the biggest burden when internal toxins are released. Therefore, it is recommended to Castor Pack kidneys before during and after a cleansing routine. Do not Castor Pack kidneys 2 days in a row. There should be at least a day in between packing the kidneys. Your kidneys sit underneath the bottom ribs in the back area. Cut the flannel to fit the size of your hand and place over the last few ribs extending diagonally, inward toward the waist. Stand with your hands on the back of the waist with palms touching the ribs and thumbs toward the front waist, your kidneys sit in that area.
IV. Liver - Another major detox organ, the liver, greatly benefits from a castor pack. The liver holds a tremendous amount of stagnant waste- especially if there are gallstones. Castor packs will stimulate circulation to the liver and increase blood flow. This will encourage a release of stagnant bile and other accumulated toxins. The liver is located underneath the right rib. Cut the flannel cloth to cover the area starting at the sternum all the way around the right rib cage toward the back. The picture below gives you an idea of where to place the flannel.
Instructions
1. Prepare 2 layers of cotton flannel. Fold or cut the cloth creating a 2-layer pad (on average, about 6”x 8” per sheet) to cover the area to be treated. For example, to use a castor oil pack over the abdominal area, the size of the flannel cloth would be 8 inches long by 8 inches wide (2 sheets thick). The packs can be small, smaller, or slightly larger (up to 12”x 10”.) Note: The instructions that come with the pack suggest 3-layers of cotton flannel. We have found that 2 layers work well and are much more cost efficient.
2. Cut a plastic sheet so it is somewhat larger than the flannel cloth. The plastic is used to protect the heating pad from getting oily. Using a plastic garbage bag normally works fairly well, but it is best to avoid using plastic grocery bags, since they are usually printed with ink on one side which can dissolve and spread when exposed to castor oil.
3. Saturate cloth with castor oil. Place the flannel cloth on top of the plastic sheet. Then saturate it with castor oil (pour the oil over the cloth in a back and forth motion, then fold the cloth in half and smooth over the surface of the cloth making sure to spread the oil evenly.) The cloth should be wet but not dripping. The saturated cloth should then be placed directly on the skin with the plastic sheet on top of it. Your plastic sheet should cover the entire exterior of the saturated flannel, since castor oil is likely to stain any fabric it touches.
4. Then, place a heating pad over the top of the plastic sheet on a medium setting, or higher if it is comfortable. The heat will promote absorption, increase circulation, and help the body to relax. This is generally left in place for approximately 60 minutes (up to 1 ½ hours.) You may place a bath towel over the top of the heating pad to help hold in heat and an elastic bandage or belt to hold it in place.
Caution: Heat should not be used in conditions where it is normally contraindicated, such as appendicitis, diabetic neuropathy or over the abdomen during pregnancy. However, the castor oil pack may be used without heat in these conditions.
5. Wash Off Area. After using the castor oil pack, cleanse the skin using a wash cloth and Premier Liquid Soap or other non toxic soap. Washing the area helps clear acidic toxins which have been drawn out of the body during the treatment and helps prevent reabsorbing these toxins.
Castor Oil Pack Without Heat. An alternative method is to apply the castor oil pack without heat, using a towel wrapped around the body (with safety pins to hold it in place). This can be left on for several hours, overnight, or for an entire 24-hour period.
Re-Use of the Same Castor Oil Pack. Each cotton flannel pack may be used only once because, during the course of treatment, the pack gradually absorbs toxins and waste products. Therefore, after use, discard the pack. It is not recommended to try to wash out the pack for re-use.
Frequency of Castor Oil PacksIn general, the castor oil packs are recommended 2 to 4 times per week, for 60 minutes (up to 1 ½ hours) per session, for 3 to 6 weeks or longer. At first, it may work better to skip a day in between the use of each pack, rather than using them on consecutive days. For maintenance, it is recommended to repeat a series of packs for three weeks several times a year. *If feeling fatigued or having a cleansing reaction, castor pack the kidneys.
For general use in detoxification, the recommended areas to pack for one week follow this sequence: • Day 1 - abdomen • Day 2 - low back • Day 3 - liver • Day 4 - kidneys
Then repeat the sequence on a weekly basis for six weeks. This is an excellent addition to the Premier Intestinal Cleanse and Master Liver/Gallbladder Flush.
Long-term Chronic Illness. If a person has been chronically ill for a long time, if they have a high degree of toxicity, or if they have significant difficulty in eliminating toxins (such as with kidney failure), then it is best if the packs are used on alternating days for the first week or so and for smaller amounts of time (such as 30 minutes per session). As the general condition of the body improves, the packs may be used more frequently and/or for longer periods of time (for 1 to 1½ hours per session).
Cleansing Reactions. The use of castor oil packs should always be gentle, without side effects. Cleansing reactions, such as a rash, are rare. If they occur, it usually indicates that the body’s ability to eliminate toxins is not sufficient yet. It may be necessary to temporarily decrease the frequency or length of time of using the packs. The most common cleansing reaction is a rash that may occur at the site of the pack. If this occurs, it is typically noticed during the first few applications of the pack. A Medi-Blast™ will usually alleviate any reactions.
