The Incan Berry is also known as a Goldenberry, Gooseberry, Cape Gooseberry, and Ground-cherry.  It is closely related to the tomatillo. The fruit is a small round berry about the size of a marble with numerous small yellow seeds. It is bright yellow-orange when ripe, and the color deepens when they are sun-dried. Native to high altitude tropical Colombia, Chile, Ecuador and Peru (where these little beauties are from).

The Power of Inca Berries*:

• Good source of bioflavinoids, such as vitamin P, which possess anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antiviral properties.
• Rich in pectin
• Abundance of phosphorous
• High in protein - 16%, extremely high for a fruit
• High in vitamins A & C
• Broad spectrum of B-vitamins (including B1, B2, B6) and are reputed to be one of the only known plant-based sources of B12, a crucial and potent energy generator necessary for cellular metabolism.
• In folk medicine, the Inca Berry has been used as a medicinal herb for cancer, malaria, asthma, hepatitis, dermatitis and rheumatism. (Evidence of these healing effects has not been confirmed in scientific studies.)
